Chemung County Divorce Records
Divorce records provide legal verification that a marriage has formally dissolved. New York divorce actions are handled exclusively by the Supreme Court, even though they are generally considered matters of family law.
Unlike general civil files, Chemung County divorce records are non-public. Following N.Y. Dom. Rel. Law § 235(1), all matrimonial records are sealed for 100 years. Access is strictly limited to spouses, their attorneys, or individuals with an official court order. Certified copies are dispensed by the Chemung County Clerk's Office, but the requester must prove their identity.
